An Ice Cream Meltdown

It happened last night. I let my hormones get the best of me. I have been on a huge ice cream kick lately. Any kind of ice cream that can have chunks of candy and/or chocolate is perfect- therefore blizzards, frosty's, shakes with candy added, mcflurry's are all on my radar.
So after dinner we went to McDonald's so I could have an M&M McFlurry. Not my top choice, mind you, but it was closest.
So Mike orders them and we pull up to the window. As we drive away I look down into a half-full cup with a few measly M&Ms sprinkled on the top (I checked, there were NONE in the middle or bottom).
That was JUST UNACCEPTABLE. I had to stand up for icecream lovers everywhere. I made Mike park and I went inside. There was no one in line so the lady came over and I asked her if she could add some M&Ms and mix it up for me. She looked at me like I was nuts- fine, I didn't care, just fix it. I explained that usually the McFlurrys had a bunch of candy and were mixed up, this just barely had any. She decided to make me a new one- only the smart a$s filled it half-full and again put barely any M&Ms. There was no getting my way with this cranky woman so I left.
Here's where I really lose it...
I went to get in the car and stepped on Mike's dinner leftovers on the floor of the passenger side. The lid popped off- on of those round plastic lids over a foil container that never seems to fit right.
I paused, took a deep breath, hurled my McFlurry onto the ground and proceeded to take the leftovers out and sit Indian Style on the ground to fix the lid- in the parking lot. (I'm trying not to cry by now because the Universe is clearly conspiring against my and my desire for ice cream).
I got the lid fixed and asked Mike to take me home.
Being the good hubby he is, he said no, he'd take me to Wendy's or somewhere for my ice cream- and what kind did I want?. I really wanted a Blizzard but explained to him that I hate waiting in the long line at DQ because it takes forever so Wendy's would be fine so we could just drive thru.
My loving husband pulled up and parked at DQ, told me to wait in the car and got my ice cream. There wasn't even a line last night (probably because I'm the only crazy person who wants ice cream when it's 40 degrees out). The Universe was smiling on me again.
Thanks Babe!

The Weekend

We had a pretty nice weekend overall (minus the cooler weather).
A couple of notable things were seeing "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".
I loved this movie. For those of you who've seen it already, Snuffalufagus f#$%s my sh*t up (it's my new favorite line).
Yesterday Mike and I went over to Deer Park and I checked out the store Hot Mama. Dave and Laura got me a GC for my birthday so I wanted to get in there. I love that place. So cute. It's half maternity, half regular sizes. I'll be going back in a few weeks to get some maternity pants but yesterday I got a few cute shirts. One basic black Michael Stars one (I love how stretchy his shirts are, I have several already), and then 2 tank tops. One that says "Due in October" and one with baby footprints on it.
Last notable thing is the introduction of leg cramps into my life. Friday, Saturday and Sunday night I woke up at least once to the worst leg cramps. I know they are more common in pregnancy, but they can also be cause by dehydration. Saturday night was the worst. I think it was because I had an off tummy day and had gotten sick a few times, but geez.
I think I gave Mike a heart attack when I jumped out of bed (completely airborn) and started stomping my foot on the ground.
This baby sure knows how to keep things interesting :) Happy Monday

Here Comes the Bump

Here are some pics of the bump that is starting to form. Guess there really is something in there. It should be noted that I am going to eat lunch right after I hit "publish post" so these pics are on an empty stomach. It usually looks even rounder after a meal. I'll start updating the pics more regularly now that there is starting to be something to look at.
On another note, we started looking at baby furniture and have it narrowed down to 2 sets. Our friends Steve and Darcy recommended Furniture Kidz in Deer Park. We went there last weekend and the people were really helpful. I'll post some pics of the set we choose once we decide in the next week or so. I felt like we weren't doing much so knowing that we have some direction for the room makes me feel good- though I have a thousand ideas for paint/decor. We'll wait on that until we know if our little one bats for team pink or team blue- which we may get to find out on May 6th. The doctor told us we can have an extra ultrasound to check the sex. They won't tell us unless it's 100% obvious, but he said they can often tell as early as 12-13 weeks, it's just a matter of if the baby is camera shy or not. Last time he/she was hiding out quite a bit.

My Animal Planet/Discover Channel Moment of the Day

This week, especially because the weather has been so nice, I've been trying to get up early and go for a short walk/jog in the morning. Yes, people, I am allowed- actually encouraged by all of my doctors to continue to exercise (running included) in moderation. I just do it on a very slow, low- key level and walk alot of the time.
Anyways, I had just set out and was making my way down towards the park area near our house when I saw the BIGGEST coyote I've ever seen. Well, actually Mike and I saw him once last fall and he was laying down in a field. Even laying down we could see how large he was.
I avoided his general area and changed my path just to be safe, but it struck me as odd that he was so bold. There were several other people around, some out walking or jogging, others heading into the offices that are right next to where he was. He just stood there lookin at us all like "what up, nice weather". I think he was scrounging for garbage.
Honestly, I was close enough that I can tell you he was bigger/taller/thicker than Bailey. He looked more like a wolf to me.
As long as he doesn't start eating people's little puppies or make me his Little Red Riding breakfast, I think we'll be cool with each other.
Happy Friday.

The Pregnancy Countdown Book

For my bday, my girlfriend Valerie got me this cute little book called "The Pregnancy Countdown Book". Thanks Valerie!
It has good advice, comments from other moms and other funny tidbits that are broken down by days. As I read it, I'll share some of the highlights with you.
Even though I'm at week 15 today- YAY! I still started at the beginning and found this funny little bit about why we need 3 trimesters and 10 months of pregnancy. Day 245...

"You need your first trimester to get your head around the pregnancy. This is the "@&$%! I'm going to be somebody's mother" phase.
You need your second trimester to feel better and bond with your baby. This is the "@&$%! There really is someone in there" phase.
"You need your third trimester to get itchy, bitchy and huge. This is the "@&$%! Just get this baby out of me, no matter how much it hurts or how long it takes" phase."
I think that sounds about right.

his is the &%$!!

And so it begins...

Today is the first day that I am actually starting off the day with the rubber-band trick. I haven't updated any pictures lately because there really hasn't been any change in the belly over the past few weeks. I have a feeling it won't be long now. Some pants are still okay, but several of my work pants have begun to pinch at the waist. Tomorrow is the 15 week mark so I guess I gave it a good run. In talking with my mom, she didn't truly pop until about 4 1/2 months so I will be right around that mark. I'm certain it's bound to happen right as we leave for Aruba. I actually wouldn't mind that. A little belly at the beach isn't a bad thing. It's not like I'll be 9 months pregnant and sweating my butt off in the humidity, looking like a beached whale.
We'll see what happens.

Saturday Night

I just wanted to thank everyone who came out Saturday night. It was so good to see all of you!
I loved my gifts and cards and had fun passing around the Baby Name book from Mari and hearing everyone's ideas- I do still love Harold Richard. The nickname possibilities are endless.
Glad to hear everyone got home safe! Next time I'll do shots, too :)

Beer Bread is the new Crack

That's right folks. I am addicted. I bought the value pack of Beer Bread at Mandy's Tastefully Simple party and I can't get enough. For those of you don't know, it's just a bread mix that you add a bottle of beer to- and bake. It's super easy, which is part of the problem. I made a loaf Friday- and we ate it all. I made a loaf Saturday- and we ate it all. The best part about it is that you can mix it up and add soda or fruit juice, add apples or raisins, or corn, and make a variety of different types of bread.
I did apples and cinnamon for the second loaf- mmmmm.
It seriously might become an issue for me. I gave my mom the third packet and am regretting it. Thankfully I can order more online- I checked last night. And believe me, I had to check. I nearly had a panic attack when I realized I was going to be out of it after the last slice!

Everything is good

I got my first results back from my first Trimester pre-screening labs.
These checked for increased fluid in the back of the baby's neck, hCG (a hormone that can cause chromosome abnormality, and abnormal levels of plasma protein in the placenta. Very scientific!!
These screenings can detect birth defects like Down Syndrome and different Trisomy defects.
Everything came back normal. Yay!
More needles and poking and prodding to come next month.

A Birthday Gift of a different kind

Last night Toni and Gretchen text me to let me know that they had run into an old high school friend. I just have to share the details of this because they seem almost fake- but I assure you that this girl is for real (well, for real in her pathological lying abilities).
While Gretch and T were having celebratory drinks last night, this girl (I won't give her name, but many of you will know of whom I speak) came in. I don't consider sharing this to be mean because I believe by now she must be nearly world renowned for her lying skills.
She had a younger girlfriend with her-
For those of you who don't know this person, think John Lovitz from Saturday Night Live. You know... "yeah, I'm the kind of Spain, that's the ticket, yeah..."
I don't consider sharing this to be mean because I believe by now she must be nearly world renowned for her lying skills. They've gotten her in plenty of trouble but she just won't quit.
Here's what she's been up to- according to her friend and straight from her own mouth...
1. She has moved back in with her mom after selling her huge mansion (word used).
2. She donated a kidney to a needy child (we remember back in high school when she had outpatient liver surgery L.I.E....- and scratched a scar into her side with a tac when she showed up to school the next day).
3. She is about to buy a 5 bedroom mansion (again had to use the word)in Kenosha for $90,000
4. She just got her Associates but somehow is starting out as a CPA (this requires 150 credit hours, hmm, doesn't seem to match up).
5. BEST ONE- Her friend is surprised she remembered Toni and Gretchen, Toni's mom and some of the others they were with since she has amnesia from her car accident and doesn't remember anyone/anything about high school.

It's been so many years since I've gotten sit audience to her stories. I have to say, I've missed it.
I love that the world consists of people like this. You never know who you are gonna run into.

A Good Day

I had a great Bday. Thanks to everyone for the Birthday wishes!
Reasons today was a good day...
1. The weather- 75 degrees and sunny (even if it was ridiculously windy)
2. The baby and I felt good- no nausea all day!
3. Mike is home
4. PF Changs for dinner and DQ for dessert- need I say more?
5. Really cute new purse- thanks Mike
6. The Cubs KILLED Cincinnati
I promise my blogs will get more interesting again soon, it's just an adjustment period with my new work :)

Happy Early Birthday Gretch

Tomorrow is my first day at my new job. Since I am not sure what kind of time I'll have before or after work, I wanted to make sure I put this out there.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRETCH!
I love you and hope you have a great day! Go do 28 jager bombs- since I know you love those disgusting things :)

Mike comes back tonight and I will provide an update of his adventures- or shall I say misadventures from his trip in a day or two.
Bailey and I have missed him and are ready for him to be back. Especially Bailey. He guards the house when Mike is away and won't even sleep in the bedroom. He sleeps at the door and growls at every creak and groan of the house.

Life While Mike's Away

Last night I went into the city to have dinner with Linds and Sarah at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba. They have great Tapas dishes and I thought (at least at the time) it could be the most perfect food for a pregnant woman. What's not to love? Small samplings of a variety of foods so you are sure to fill any desire or craving you and the baby are looking for- and you can always re-order something if you really love it.
Dinner was great but something didn't agree with me. I think it was the dates in one of the dishes (at least that's what came back up later- I'll leave it a that). I was fine once the unwanted items had left the building, or so I thought.
I don't know if it was the food, or what, but I had an interesting dream.
I was on a houseboat down on the Bayou with none other than Jamie Lynn Spears (Britney's preggers sister who's what, 16, 17?).
Now before I go any further let me just state that this is not a reflection on Southern people, a lot of my family members live in different Southern states, I'm from Kentucky and I have a friend from Louisiana- we all know by now that most of the Spears' family members are a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
Anywhoo, so I'm on this houseboat and Jamie Lynn and I are both as pregnant as can be. Her boyfriend/fiance, whatever, is cookin' up some crawfish for us (I don't know why we'd be eating crawfish when we're pregnant). The last thing I remember is Jamie looking at me, smiling to show a bunch of missing and cracked teeth, and asking me if I'd like some chewin' tobacca.
YIKES! Think I'll stick to bland foods today, just to be safe.

To fill you in on Mike's trip so far. The boys made it there safe. He called me last night from the campsite. They had set up camp in the Pouring Rain. I got a text from Teresa later on saying similar things and that Brian let her know that they were all "staring at eachother" in the rain. Hope the weather is kinder to them today as they take on their 16 mile treck UP THE MOUNTAIN (that seriously is the plan for the day).

Thursday is Finally Here

Today is an eventful day on several levels.
1. It's my last day at Rainbows. It's a little bittersweet. Things have been rough towards the end here but I've had almost 6 years here and most were really good ones. I learned so much here and took on some big projects both personally and professionally. Many people here have been family to me so it's sad to leave, but I've promised to keep in touch. They are taking me to lunch and a few of the ladies got me a beautiful bookmark and an organizational book for pregnancy. I have had post-it notes all over my office for doctor appts, questions, things to buy and look up (and I'm sure it will only get worse). I can't wait to use it! -added note. At lunch I was given a beautiful Waterford paper weight that reflects light into Rainbows (very fitting :) )
2. Tonight may be my last night with my husband in one piece (I kid, I kid). Mike leaves tomorrow for his "Manly" hiking trip with the guys. I know they will be fine but I'm a tad nervous.
3. On a fun-random-happy note. Thursday night TV is back. The Office, Scrubs, 30 Rock. Thank God!!

By the way, on another random note... I finally did the Chinese star chart thing to determine the baby's sex. I don't really buy into this, but I keep thinking and dreaming this baby is a boy so I decided to test my theory. According to the chart it's a boy. We'll know for sure in a few weeks.
Have a great day!

Last Night's Doctor Appointment

We had another appointment last night. I do look forward to them- minus the poking and prodding that comes from some of the tests they give. Yesterday I had some bloodwork done to check the basics- blood type, etc and also an initial 3 trisomy 21 blood draw to test for Down syndrome and other tri-chromosomal disorders. We'll have the results on that in a week.

The high-light, as usual, was the ultrasound. The tech did an external, then an internal and then another external. I was grateful to have the opportunity to look at the baby for so long, but by the end my tummy was a bit sore from the pushing- she really pushed around.

I will chalk that up to the fact that our baby seems to take after me. If I am sleeping- or laying down- and you try to get my attention, I'll continue to turn my back on you. This made it hard to get some good images, but here are a few. The first is a side view of the head and upper body. The head is towards the top left. The second is a view of the baby facing away. The head is on the left and if you look towards the top his/her arm is up like he's waving. The tech tried to see the sex but our little one kept moving around. Dr. Cucco is going to let us have an extra ultrasound at our next visit in a month to see if we can find out the sex. Otherwise it will be in 8 weeks instead of 4. For now I am just thrilled to know everything looks good and healthy!

Mike's Bday Party

Saturday was Mike's bday party. Thanks everyone for showing up and I want to apologize for the cover charge situation. The event manager was such a coward that he wouldn't even come out of his office to talk to me himself- he sent the security manager. Anyways, I hope people had a good time regardless. I know that Mike did...
I left at midnight (which is record breaking for me as of late). I hung until I was either going to fall asleep at the table or start crying- which seems to happen when I get really tired. Neither seemed like a good option for a party so I excused myself.
At about 1:45 I woke to a noise and then silence. Just as I was about to doze off again I heard another series of noises. I headed downstairs to find a crumpled heap of Michael in the bathroom.
Poor guy was soooooo sick. Thanks to all of those who bought shots :)
Finally, at about 4, things were cleaned up and I got him to bed. I have to say, I considered it good practice for a newborn in a way. I have often wondered how I will handle certain kinds of messes and if my stomach can hang with it. Rising to the occasion in the wee hours of Sunday morning helped quiet some of those fears.
Yesterday, Mike told me he never wants a birthday party again. To this I replied, well, how about just your 40th?
Feel free to share any stories about Mike from that evening. He appears to have some blank spots. Love you Babe!

A Tasty Friday Night

So Friday Mandy had a Tastefully Simple party and it was a great time. Thanks Mandy! I haven't seen some of the girls in a while so it was fun catching up- especially seeing some of the moms-to-be who are now showing. For all of the purse, jewelry, candle, etc... parties I have been to, this was my first of this kind.
Since I still have been getting tired so early, I left around 10. Mike was at home watching tv- let's time out for a second here-

Mike's night- in preparation for his MANLY hiking trip with the guys this coming weekend, he stayed home to watch "Survivor Man" episodes on Discovery and play G.I. Joe with his hiking gear. All of the guys were doing a trial run hike Saturday morning so he wanted to have everything ready. I guess it's good that they are preparing because this is gonna be a rigorous trip, but still, it was funny to find my little Boy Scout at home on the couch enthralled by a show about purifying your urine into drinking water if the situation calls for it.

- anyways, I digress. Mike asked me how the party went and I told him about it and showed him my receipt for the yummy goodies I bought. He was a bit surprised that I spent 60 bucks. I explained to him that he was lucky it wasn't 300.00. What can you expect when you get a bunch of chattering chicks (several of whom are pregnant) together in a room and pass around a bunch of really yummy food- and then ask them if they want to buy it. Um, yeah?!! I could have ordered 1 of everything on the order form. I think 60 bucks shows alot of restraint!

Score one for the Common Folk

I have to vent- and kinda brag, too.
Saturday is Mike's bday party. I've been trying to put something together for months- just a basic get together because Mike didn't want anything formal.
I had tried to get the upstairs room at Durty Nellies and the band/party planner guy took 3 weeks to call me back- even though I left SEVERAL messages.
When he did call me back, the upstairs room was booked. I happen to know that it wasn't when I started this endeavor. Oh, well, right? I booked the band room. This means it will be a little louder and doors open to the public (besides party goers) around 8:30 or 9:00 for the bands that will be playing later. That was fine.
So for the past several days I've been leaving messages for the guy to check in. At the time I booked the room 2 months ago, the band for Saturday wasn't booked yet. It turns out that it's going to be Elevation. They are an awesome U2 cover band. This only posted to the website about 2 weeks ago. I know they charge cover for the bigger bands so I started to worry.
Finally, again after SEVERAL messages, the guy called me back yesterday and proceeded to tell me that all party-goers will need to pay a $6.00 cover.
That was the straw that broke the camels back. I calmly, but firmly, began to list my grievances... lack of communication unless on my part, neglecting to tell me that there was a possibility of a cover, the fact that some family and friends will not be staying for the band, the fact that I lost the upstairs room because of his lack of communication. He then tried to tell me the upstairs booked early because of the band and band room parties usually start very early(again not possible because when I planned this no band was booked that night yet -and ya didn't tell me that parties in that room start earlier-nice try buddy.) I would have set this up somewhere else had I known these things.
Mike and I know the owner so I asked if I could speak to him. Saying that I would work it out with him myself. This gave the guy pause. He asked if he could call me back. SURE, why not?!?!
Not even 5 minutes later my phone rang. How generous... no one will be charged cover. I don't know if it was out of the goodness of his heart or the thought of me going to his boss (which I'm still gonna do). Either way, FREE BAND for all us little folk on Saturday!
Sometimes a good verbal battle can be very cleansing.

New Template

I know the animals are kinda random but I liked the colors and swirls. Just thought I'd switch it up a bit. Hope everyone is having a good week!

I Love Me Some Yoga

Last night was my 4th Yoga class. Danielle Hong and I are doing it together. The class meets Monday nights at the Wellness Center of Northwest Community Hospital. The stretching feels so good, but it is a site to see. All of these women, many of whom are quite far along and therefore round in the middle, stretching and holding poses like Downward Dog and Warrior One. If feels graceful but seeing it in the mirror is another story entirely!
Overall it is really relaxing and I sleep like a champ on Monday nights now but during the class I actually get a little frustrated. I have found that my balance is not as good as it used to be (I read this is common in pregnancy). Some of the poses are really difficult to hold and I almost fall over. And the names! Each pose has a traditional besides the English name and some of them are really funny to me. They all have interesting vowel sounds that I can't pronounce. I've had to try not to laugh out loud a few times when the instructor says calls them out because it totally reminds me of the scene in Caddyshack when the guy says "Be da ball, be da ball." and starts chanting "nanananananananananana".
Anyways, if it's relaxing to me, I can only hope it's making the baby more comfortable. If he/she comes out in orange robes, sitting cross-legged I may re-think this.
