The Best Way to End A Bad Day

Yesterday was just kinda blah in general. First day of the work week, cold weather, some work frustrations, a tummy ache.
By the time I headed home I just wanted to curl up in a ball on the couch, I thought nothing could cheer me up except for putting the day behind me. I was wrong.
My cure for a bad day came in several forms...
-Lou Malnati's Pizza (I am living for this stuff lately)
-The Cubs winning- yay!
-And Donna stopping by with a gift that saved me a ton of stress and anxiety.
If you know Donna, my Mother-In-Law, you know what a good shopper she is.
She somehow managed to go to Hot Mama and pick out a pair of maternity jeans for me as a gift- AND THEY FIT!!!
I can't even do that when I try them on! I have been kinda dreading the trip to find maternity pants, but I knew the day was coming as the rubberband trick only gets you so far sometimes.
I LOVE THESE JEANS. They fit my butt, hips, and belly (the butt and hips are usually an issue by themselves). Of course they still need to be hemmed, but hey, who cares. I HAVE JEANS!!
Thanks Donna!!

20 Weeks

Tomorrow marks the 20 week mark for me. I can't believe it. Crazy that it's the half way point. Sometimes when I look back it seems like it's only been half that long (and other times, like when I don't feel good, it seems like it's been a year). Either way, 20 down, 20 to go.

Some of the other pregger girls are getting quite far along the road.
Congratulations to the Ferenguls on their new baby girl Isobel (did I spell that right?)
Amanda chack should be popping any day now- hang in there Amanda
and the other girls are into their 20s and 30s as far as weeks go.
Mandy St. Leger's shower is this weekend so it will be fun to see everyone and catch up. It's been a while.
While we are watching Mandy open gifts, our guys will be returning (most likely hung over and sunburned) from their annual golf trip. Seems like each year someone gets in trouble and is told not to come back. It's kinda like Survivor in my mind- someone's voted out each year. Wonder who it will be this year.

The Mommy Flu??

It's been a few days since I've updated, but, once again, I've been sick.
I was at the doctor on Thursday with what they referred to as the "mommy flu". Apparently I was the 3rd pregnant woman in that morning with the same thing. It consisted of 3 days of throwing up (sorry to say it that way, it's not exactly pleasant), on and off fever, cramps and other symptoms which lead to severe dehydration. The dehydration was the reason I made the appointment. I'm used to throwing up, but it became hard to keep enough fluids down and I was worried about the baby. They ran some tests, bloodwork and cultures, and though I was definitely way low on fluids they thought I was still okay enough to avoid an IV and the baby was fine. It's always re-assuring to hear the baby's heartbeat.
Just a couple of really enjoyable days (sarcasm). My tummy took quite the beating because I've been having some stretching pains, coupled with throwing up, my abdomen felt like someone had been using me as a punching bag. Anyways, I am feeling much better for the most part.
Oh, something exciting- I think I'm feeling the baby move. It's not exactly kicks- the tyke is still too small for pressure like that to be felt, but I have felt little flutters a few different times now. The first time I chalked it up to digestion, but the doctor asked me about it on my visit and confirmed that it was probably the baby letting me know it's there. :) I Love It!!

We're Back

We got back from Aruba on Monday night. I wish we were still there. The weather was beautiful and so was our resort, the beach and everything else. We ate wayyyyy too much and had a great time. The people there are very laid back- no one is in your face trying to sell you things or braid your hair and I felt very safe there- lots of things to do, even at night.

Here are some pics. I am counting these as my Week 18 pictures since my belly appears in several of them.

Off to Aruba

See you all when we get back.

Some quick good news... I got my results back from my latest labs and bloodwork and all is well.

Another Sickly Weekend

Lately feeling good has not been in my cards. The doctor says that some women continue to have sickness in their second trimester. Knowing that this is normal makes me feel better mentally, but I am still getting sick every few days. This weekend it's been every day. Friday, Saturday and Sunday (though I haven't thrown up today, yet... fingers crossed). I'm hoping this will knock itself out so Aruba will be nausea/vomiting free. We'll see.
It doesn't last all day when it happens- usually. Yesterday and today have been all-day events but maybe it's just a bug. I've also thought it could be in the genes. My mom was okay, but some of my aunts (Aunt Lori especially), Mike's mom, several of his cousins and aunts were all sick throughout their pregnancies- hospital stays and IVs included. I'm definately not that bad but maybe there's a connection.
I guess we could make it a game. I eat something and while we wait to see what my tummy is gonna do, we take bets-"$10 bucks says the waffles are staying." Who needs a day at Arlington Park with this kinda action?
My energy level is definately up from the first semester, so that's good, and the baby is growing and healthy, which is even better. I would just like to put in my request for some time away from praying to the porcelain god.

No News Yet

We had our ultrasound last night but have no pink or blue news to share. The little bugger had his/her legs crossed and was being bashful. We'll have another go at it at our next appointment in 3 1/2 weeks. It's hard to be disappointed because we still got to see how the baby was doing and how it looked. Here's a pic. It's a little foggy but you can see the head in the center of the page. The body is towards the left. It's a side profile of the face and nose and then upper body.

Week 17 and a Doctor Appt

We had another appointment with Dr. Cucco last night. I think Mike and I both agree that he rocks! He's just so easy to talk to and has patience for endless questions. He explains everything thoroughly and doesn't think any of my questions are weird or strange. Most doctors may be this way- at least I hope for everyone's sake, they are, but I'm just glad he is my doctor.
Anyways, not much to report yesterday. We had more bloodwork done. I didn't remember to check my list for the test name of it this morning, but it was to test for more abnormalities- similar to the finger prick from last visit to detect trisomes, but as Dr. Cucco explained, this tests from different angles and covers about 25 (he may have said 35) other things they look for as well. We'll have the results by Friday so that's good.
He tried to sneak us in for the extra ultrasound to see the sex of the baby, but the technician was already gone for the day. That's okay though because he scheduled us in for this afternoon for a freebie. So after work Mike and I are gonna meet over there and see if this baby's got anything he/she wants to show us :)
We'll keep you posted.

Chocolate Fest

So yesterday I went over to the Long Grove Chocolate Fest for a few hours with Gretchen. We had a great time together, but I must say I became a bit frustrated with my partner-in-crime.
Gretchen had a late night on Saturday night and was moving a bit slowly. I, on the other hand, am a pregnant, constantly hungry, eating machine.
The day went something like this.
Me: "Oh, chocolate-covered strawberries. Wanna get some?"
Gretch: "No, I'm not really hungry."
of course I got some anyways.
Next, approaching a booth selling every type of salsa, sauce, dip, jelly, dressing imaginable- AND you could sample ALL of it.
Me-with my mouth full of chips and salsa: "Aren't you gonna taste any?"
Gretch: "No, I'm not really hungry."
Onto a free sampling of fudge
Me-again with my mouth full: "Do you want to try a piece, it's so good."
Gretch: "No, I'm good, thanks."
Realizing it was lunch time and though the strawberries and chips were good, I wanted a meal...
Me: "I'm gonna get a chicken or pulled pork sandwich. Do you want something-Nachos, a pretzel, corn, pizza, chicken fingers, anything?"
Gretch: "No thanks".
I really did have a good time. Thanks Gretch! I love you. But note to everyone out there, when at a festival with a pregnant woman, be prepared to eat early and often- who am I kidding- CONSTANTLY.

Week 16 Pics

Here are a few pics from over the weekend. Little by little, the belly is growin'. I think the Aruba trip may mark the end of the actual shirt-up belly shots, we'll see, though. I have a week and a half to see what this belly does before I put it in a swimsuit. I kinda hope it looks more like a pregnant belly by then so I don't look like I ate too many Twinkies at breakfast before we went out to the beach :) . I'm waiting until next weekend to pick out a swimsuit, that way I am ready if anything really decides to pop out (belly, booty, etc) over the next week.
On another note, my fever is gone, though I'm still a bit congested. Guess it was better to get a bug now than for our trip- though being sick and only being able to take Tylenol is not a fun experience. Oh well, I'm sure after experiencing childbirth, and then months little to no sleep, a drug-free cold will be nothin! I'll consider it a form of preparation for what lies ahead.

Another tidbit from The Pregnancy Countdown Book

I'm still not caught up to the current date for my pregnancy, but this entry for day 186 made me chuckle.
Are you tired of the Science experiment?
You are probably wondering if there's any part of your body that will remain unchanged for the rest of your pregnancy, since most of your body seems profoundly changed- and you still have a long way to go.
Believe it or not, there is a part that won't change: your ears. Your ears will not be affected by your pregnancy. Ears don't swell, change color, expand, emit odors, release liquid, itch, fall off or require any special attention, clothing, padding, worry or fear.
Ears Rule!"
Well, I guess it is nice to know something on my body won't change, but seriously, am I supposed to celebrate?- Oh, thank God my ears won't change, because I have been really worried about them!
