Packing for Florida

I am in the process of packing things for Peyton and I for Florida. We are leaving this Thursday evening.
I am excited, but also extremely nervous.
I thought I knew what it would take to travel with a baby, but I had no idea.
I kinda wish I was travelling with Mike for this trip since it's our first, but I think I'll survive.
There are just so many steps. Getting the pass for her even though she is riding on my lap, packing for her- food, diapers, bottles, bibs, toys, medicine just in case, clothes, bath stuff, blankets, purp cloths, stroller, pacifiers. Then packing for me, too.
Then there is the security check- I've got to take her out of her stroller and get that through the machine. I am just afraid I'm gonna take like an hour to do all of that- shoes off, liquids separate, show passes, put the stroller back together. I can just imagine the line full of angry travellers behind me tapping their feet- because that was totally me.
But that's just the beginning. I really don't want to be that lady on the plane with the screaming kid. I'm preparing myself for it just in case- not much I can do if Peyton really decides she's not happy on the plane- except maybe have a glass of wine for me :). Lindsey will be there with me, so that's good. We can share the misery together. There is always a chance Peyton will sleep the whole time. She's just not a good napper anyways so I'm not counting on it.
Oh well, we'll survive. You've gotta start some time, right? Besides, if she's miserable to travel with I can always harass her about it when she's a teenager.

She did it!

I was cleaning up the kitchen and had set Peyton on a blanket for some tummy time. I thought it was odd that she didn't fuss after a few minutes like she normally does so I went over to look and sure enough... she was on her back. So I grabbed the camera and put her back on her tummy, and... (again, ignore my annoying commentary to Mike)

Rollin on a river... well, almost

Peyton is working her way up to rolling over. When she's on her activity mat or in her crib, I'll see her flopped onto her side. She hasn't made it over yet, but I don't think it will be long.

Out to Lunch

With all of the cold weather, we really haven't taken Peyton out much. We've gone to friends houses, our parents and a few trips to the mall, but that's about it- oh, and of course the doctor.
Yesterday we had our first official date as a family. We all went to lunch together at Max N Erma's. Peyton did great. She hung out with us while we ate and dozed off towards the end.

She's had some separation anxiety lately so I wasn't sure how she would be. She is great with Mike and I, but gets upset with other people. My new goal is to get her out and about in the world as much as possible- especially because we are going to Florida on the 29th. She just needs to see that there is a whole world out there for her to explore. Hopefully this will help with the fussiness.
Sidenote: I can't wait to see her in her swimsuit in Florida.

Exploring

I'm going to try to update my blog more often. I love reading everyone elses and their comments. I just seem to have lost some brain capacity and articulation since my pregnancy. It's starting to come back, but I think, like any muscle, I have to use it to make it stronger. I'm working on eliminating my "uhhhh and ummmm" responses from my vocabulary right now.
ANYWHOOO...
Peyton has started to find her feet. She lifts her little legs up and stretches them around, occasionally grabbing them and holding on with a surprised look on her face. She hasn't quite made the connection that they are on her body, but she can feel that she's pulling on them.

Now when I find her waking up from her nap, I see this little balled up thing wiggling her feet in the air and smiling. She sways her legs from side to side and coos. She reminds me of a little monkey. Here's a shot of her lifting her legs, she wouldn't hold still long enough for a better one- and then just some cute pics. She loves her bunny blankie

Peyton's 1 month photos

Mike's cousin Kiki emailed me some of the photos she took of Peyton when she was one month. Kiki is an Amazing photographer. She uses natural light. I wish she didn't live in Cleveland so I could have her photograph Peyton more often. Not only that, but Kiki and John are like a brother and sister to us more than cousins. We wish we could see them more often than just a few times a year.

Peyton's Batism

Yesterday our little girl became a Catholic. We had a wonderful ceremony. There was one other baby getting baptized- a boy, and get this. His name was Payton with an A!
What are the odds??
Peyton was so good during the ceremony, she didn't cry at all and the other baby Wailed!
But don't worry that once we got to Dad and Donna's for the party, Peyton got a tummy ache and cried and screamed for an hour. I felt so terrible for her. It's such a helpless feeling and she just looks at you while she cries like "what is this, make it stop".
Aside from the belly ache, we had a great day and she looked so sweet in her little gown. In one of the pics you can see her gripping her Baptismal necklace. Dad and Donna got it for her in Rome and it was blessed by the Pope twice. Mike loves to remind me that the Pope is Polish. Our families have a fun little rivalry about Italian vs Polish- to prove it, aside from cake at the party we had Kolachkis (I have no idea how to spell that) and Calzones (again with the spelling). Besides her necklace, she received some beautiful collectible Sworovski figurines, bonds, teddybears and then, from my mom and dad, a baby ring and I got a chain to wear it on.

TV Pregnancy

So last night I was watching the friends episode where Rachel had her baby. I never paid attention to how unrealistic tv pregnancies are before- but then again, I've never had a baby before Peyton.
Um, Rachel just kinda hopped up on the hospital bed at one point and wiggled herself into a comfy position.
YEAHHH RIGHT!!!
C-section or not, you CAN NOT move that fast or easily for DAYS if not weeks.
Just an observation.

Peyton's chatter

Peyton loves to talk. She makes all kinds of noises. Her latest addition is kindof purring. She sounds like a cross between Chewbacca and a kitten.

Peyton's 3 month check up

We just got back from the doctor and our little girl is doing great!

She is now 11lb 6oz and 24 inches long!
She is 75th percentile for height! Ha, can you believe that? She is 2 feet long!!
She had her Polio shot today and barely cried. She's such a big girl!

3 Months

Peyton,

I can't believe it. You are already 3 months old! That's a fourth of a year already. You have gone from this beautiful, helpless little newborn, to a wiggly, smiling, grabbing, laughing (yes, you have laughed a few times for us now), and even more beautiful baby.
I won't know how much you weigh or how tall you are until the 6th but I can only imagine the leaps and bounds of growth that have occured this month.
You can hold your little head up now. You use your little neck muscles to look around at the world and take it all in. You smile whenever you see your Daddy and me- and you even share your gorgeous grins with others. I look at you and just can't believe you are mine, that we made you! You had your first Christmas and New Year's Eve this month, too. You looked so beautiful in your little Christmas dress and you were such a good girl that Santa brought you tons of gifts, not to mention the beautiful outfits and toys that our family and friends spoiled you with. This month you also teased us by sleeping through the night for about 2 1/2 weeks straight- and then stopping. But how can I be mad when I wake up to hear you- groggy and cranky- to see this little baby waiting for me. Even when you cry at night, you smile at me when you spot me. Thank you for coming to your Daddy and me. We love to watch you sleep, eat (and grab your bottle), and play. Your little giggles that have joined your growing vocabulary of noises are just priceless. I can't wait to see what 2009 brings for you. You are my heart and soul and I love you forever.
Love,
Mommy
