Peyton's 6 month photos

While we were in Florida over Easter, we were lucky enough to have Kiki take some more pictures of Peyton. She uses natural light and I love the way it makes colors look. Here are just a few. She took so many, and I love them all. Even in the ones where Peyton isn't smiling, I just love the color of her eyes. Thanks Kiki, we had so much fun with you and the kids, the pictures were just a bonus!

Thank You

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the calls, texts and emails regarding Mike and thanks to my parents, Mike's Dad and Dave for all of your help over the past few days. He is home and taking a long nap right now.
For anyone who doesn't know, Mike was playing softball with the guys Monday night and was hit in the left temple from a throw while running to second base. The throw was hard enough to cause a bruise on his brain. I guess this is a bit worse than just a concussion because the Neurologist says there is a risk for scar tissue to form and seizures. The immediate concern was continued bleeding around the brain while the bruise formed. He suffered some slurred speech, nausea and, as you can guess, a wicked headache.
This earned him a 2 night stay in the hospital. He is home now and doing great. No sports for a few weeks and a follow up test in 2 weeks and then an EEG in a month.
Thanks again to all the guys for calling and stopping by the hospital, and thanks to the girls for the calls and emails!
Peyton is happy to have Dada home.

Guess who runs this house

As if she didn't have enough control over our lives, Peyton has now taken control of the TV as well.

How to feed a fussy baby

Peyton was pretty cranky all day yesterday. She was having one of those days where she didn't want to be put down. She wasn't eating very well and didn't really want to play - maybe a tooth coming or not feeling so good, but either way I strapped on the Bjorn and we spent the afternoon connected. It was the only way I could get any work done. So when it came time for the next bottle I figured, why not? She ate like a champ! Who knew?

Congrats to The Gormsen Family.
They welcomed Adriana Rose Gormsen to their family yesterday morning.
Stats: 8 lb 13oz and 21 inches long.
We can't wait to meet her!

Nana and Papa Rock

Peyton spent Saturday night with Nana and Papa. I was going to wait until I had some cuter pictures, but this is the only one I have. Peyton discovered ears thanks to Nana and she now looks for mine and Mike's constantly. It's really cute!
She had a great time playing with Nana and Papa and can't wait to do it again.
Thanks Guys!

Saturday night Peyton had a sleepover at my parents and Mike and I went out with some of my girlfriends to celebrate Gretchen's and my bday.
We went to a great place in Vernon Hills called Nirvana. It was a great little wine bar/ bistro type place. They had great live music, really good wine and yummy food. We spent 4 hours hangin out and laughing and then Mike and I headed home to relax. Too bad we wanted to stay up late and ended up asleep by 11:00.
Guess I'm officially getting old.
Thanks Toni, Sarah, Gretch, Mike, Jeff, Ked, and Nick for a great night!

Easter in Florida

We headed to Marco Island last Thursday to spend Easter with Dad, Donna, Dave, Laura, Kiki and the kids. We had a wonderful time.

Peyton spent quite a bit of time in the pool.

She had her first boat ride and even drove for a bit.

The Easter Bunny came to visit and she dressed up for him.

Peyton spent alot of time with her cousins Emmett and Erin. They were so great with her, sharing toys and playing with her. She had her first taste of Whipped Cream- yes, we gave her a squirt from the bottle- just a tiny one, though.
It was a really nice and relaxing week. Peyton was great on the plane and was so sweet and smiley all week.

It was so cute to see her in little summer clothes. Kiki took some pictures as well. I can't wait to see them. She is the one who took Peyton's announcement photos. Now it's back to reality!

A bit of a relief

While I was pregnant with her, they spotted a cyst on her ovary in one of my last ultrasounds- it's amazing what science can do!
Anyways, they notified me and sent a copy of it to Peyton's Pediatrician. This isn't too uncommon, but it's something that has to be monitored.
We had to wait 6 months before they followed up on it. It's just been sitting on my mind all that time. Every time I would take Peyton to the doctor I'd say "remember that she has that cyst on her ovary and we need to take a look to see if it's going away". The doctor would always remind me "we will, at the 6 month mark. Generally unless there are some strange symptoms, there is no need to do it sooner".
Finally we went back for the follow up ultrasound- this time at the hospital. Peyton was so good. She fussed a little but stayed very still while the tech did her thing.
She gave me the scare of a lifetime, though, when she said "oh, there are 2 cysts, one on each. One seems to be a bit large". My heart went into my throat. She then said we wouldn't know anything until the doctors compared my original ultrasound info with this one.
So, Peyton's Pediatrician called me that afternoon to say that she was sharing it with a specialist at Children's Memorial and would get back to me.
I was definately nervous, but she seemed certain it was okay. I'm sure I was overreacting a little bit, but it's not every day that you have to have someone run tests and use words and terms referring to forms of Cancer with your child, even when they are telling you that it isn't likely. I wasn't going to be happy until she said everything was perfect.
Well, I heard back from her and though there are 2 cysts, the one they saw originally is 1/2 the size of what it was (which makes me wonder how big it was in the first place).
Apparently, the specialist at Children's said that with IVF babies, sometimes the hormones given to the mother can cause these temporary cysts. It's still not gone, but they are going in the right direction. We will follow up in 6 weeks to see how things are going and they seemed pretty confident that one, if not both, may even be gone by then! Fingers crossed.

6 Months

Dear Peyton,

My little girl, you are 6 months old today! I almost feel like I can't call you my Peanut anymore. You are just getting too big! Every single day I watch you grow and become smarter and even more beautiful than the first time I laid eyes on you.
These past 6 months have been amazing. You have changed so much from a tiny helpless bundle to the squealing, laughing, wiggly, playful girl I am watching right now. You bounce endlessly in your jumper and love to practice sitting up.

You have now figured out how to kick and squirm your way off of your activity mat. I am starting to get a picture of what it will be like when you are crawling and walking. My days of turning my back on you for a moment are numbered.
The house is now filled with your sweet voice. You squeak and squeal and mumble all kinds of noises. I swear you would sing if you could. You are on the verge of your first word. I'm hedging my bets that it will be Dada, but Mama won't be far behind. Although, you could fool us all and shout out Bailey. He is your best friend and favorite toy.
Your strong little hands grab at anything and everything that gets close to you and then hold on to it with your kung fu grip to the point that I have to pry your fingers off. You LOVE to pull my hair. I swear I am going to be bald before you hit 7 months.
Now comes the mushy part. Peyton, you are the most amazing thing I have ever seen. My heart swells with pride and love every time I look at you. Your Daddy and I are so in love with you. You have made us better people. Every day is such a gift.
Sure I get tired and there are frustrating moments, but I would not give up a single one of them. I love that I sit and read you stories and poems that my Mommy read to me. Your Daddy sits with you on his lap and just laughs at the things you do. Your grandparents and aunts and uncles are over the moon for you!
I am seeing the world through your eyes. You have taught me what really matters in life, and that is love. My love for you is so strong that it has made me love your Daddy even more than I already do. It's made me love everyone around me more. You have made my heart grow to the point that it hurts and I know you will always have my heart. You had it the day you came into this world.
My little girl, there is so much life waiting for you. There are so many things that your Daddy and I want to show you, places to take you, things to teach you. These days are going by so fast and I try to soak them in, but they fly past before I can close my hands on them. I want to be selfish and keep you just the way you are today, but that wouldn't be fair to you and it wouldn't be fair to the world. You are such a gift, and you have so many things to offer.
I hope you will always trust your Daddy and I to help you when you need it. And I hope we are able to let go and let you learn for yourself at times.
We are your biggest fans and truest friends. I love you with all of my heart. You are my sunshine, my angel and my life.

A visit from Aunt Ann

My mom's sister Ann came to visit us this week from Houston. She came out back in the end of October (or maybe the beginning of November) to see Peyton, but it's been a few months. Peyton has changed so much since then. We had a great time catching up and Aunt Ann got to have some good snuggle time with Peyton. Look at the difference in Peyton from Aunt Ann's first visit to this one.
